Biography

Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) was an Italian opera composer who composed almost 70 operas during his lifetime. A leading figure in the bel canto opera style, he's seen as a huge influence on composers who came after him. He reached international fame in 1830 with 'Anna Bolena', his first globally successful work. Among his other most notable operas are 'Lucia di Lammermoor' (1835), 'La favorite' (1840) and 'La fille du regiment' (1840).
