Death’s blanket is pulled up tightly to our chins
Keeping us cozy, squeezing us snug
A relentless hug from eternity
Letting us know
How we are doomed and loved
As we sleep, we dream up lives for ourselves
Sad, broken, funny, mad
And our eyes flicker
And our hearts tambourine
While we act out tragic scenes
Though it may grow cold and haunted
In the amusement parks of our minds
Under death’s blanket, our bodies stay warm
And safe like babies in their mothers’ arms
