Maya Miko

Biography

In his decades-spanning career, UK-based songwriter Maya Miko has worked with both established and up-and-coming rappers. A poet at heart, he began writing as a means of coping with loss and childhood trauma. Originally inspired by the gangsta hip hop of the '90s, he wrote vivid tales of the hardships of growing up in poverty in a third world country, focusing on themes of struggle and perseverance. Now, Maya is stepping behind the scenes and experimenting with fusing together hip hop with new age spirituality and self-love music in the vein of the 1960s flower power movement. He's collaborating with indie folk singers to create music around the themes of sexuality, manifestation and empowerment.
