How close to the sun can a man fly before he gets burned
I guess you know, honey I guess I know
I never meant to bring you down, make you cry
But I guess I did, honey and I don’t know why
I’m never gonna leave you baby
I’m never gonna go
Each hole in my heart I’m trying to fill with things that you aren’t
And if you think that there’s a part of me that’s steady then I don’t know who you are
I wanna get drunk on all of your love
Baby would it be enough, if this is all I ever was
I’m never gonna leave you baby
I’m never gonna go
I can hear it calling in the back of my mind
Making you a promise like a thief in the night
Tell you something honest just keep you around
But I leave you in the dark when the lights go out
You want to hold my heart in the palm of your hand
But there's a part of me in every other city I’ve been
You can tell me a lie just keep me around
But I’m hanging on to you until my hands give out
Tell you something honest just keep you around
But I leave you in the dark when the lights go out
You can tell me a lie just keep me around
But I’m hanging on to you until my hands give out
I’m never gonna leave you baby
I’m never gonna go
I guess you know, honey I guess I know

I’m never gonna leave you baby
I’m never gonna go
I miss home but there’s a feeling in my bones
Like a part of me don’t know what home is anymore
And all these lines keep me frozen in time
While the ones I love keep moving down the line
Sometimes I wanna be on my own
But I don’t wanna die alone
If it weren’t for your love
I’d be gone by the morning
Hold on honey
Someday is gonna be one day soon
A promised hope, but I’ve heard all that before
and all the blood I’ve poured won’t be your free ride back to shore
I’ve been thinking, that we all want a taste of fame
but lately all I hope is that my kid’s proud of his name
Sometimes I wanna be on my own
but I don’t wanna die alone
If it weren’t for your love, I’d be gone by the morning
Hold on honey
Someday is gonna be one day soon
Hold on honey
One day is coming now
Someday is gonna be one day soon
Like a part of me don’t know what home is anymore
And all these lines keep me frozen in time

Darling, we might not ever look like those families
In the stock picture frames or on old time TV
There ain’t no white fence around this life we have
We’re two runaways on a one-way ticket track
And if I’m not the man you bargained for
And the bright red love you bought me for is gone
Will you lie here under star drowned skies
And look me in the eyes when I say
These are our hard times
Say you’ll stay
I see the scars you keep underneath your skin
Drawn in like a map of all the places your heart’s been
The man I am ain’t nothing but holes in a tattered soul
Threads of grace, hemmed with faith
They’re strongest stitches sewn
And if I’m not the man you bargained for
And the bright red love you bought me for is gone
Will you lie here under star drowned skies
And look me in the eyes when I say
These are our hard times
Say you’ll stay
And if I’m not the man you bargained for

I'm a product of my Grandad’s son
Hard working hands and a job well done
Skin as thick as railroad ties
But you could see a kindness in his eyes
I didn’t wanna do what he did
But I always wanted to be just like him
Strong enough to stay and fight
Man enough to do what’s right
His blood is in my own
The good and the bad and in between
I know I’m not alone
Because looking in the mirror it’s plain to see
My family
Mama has a heart of gold
The sweetest soul you could ever know
She had a boy and had one more
To love and fight what’s a brother for
His blood is in my own
The good and the bad and in between
I know I’m not alone
Because looking in the mirror it’s plain to see
My family
Hard working hands and a job well done
Skin as thick as railroad ties

I've been working like a dog, day and night
Trying to finish up this job, and do it right
There’s only a few things that a man like me needs
Jesus, whiskey and you right next to me
Hey, honey, I’m coming home
Don’t know why I’ve been gone so long
Said, hey honey I’m coming home to you
Hey honey promise please
That you’re gonna leave the light on for me
Said, hey honey I’m coming home soon
You know what we’re gonna do
Heaven knows that you've put your time in, too
Hell of a woman, sweet red wine and high heel shoes
Let’s get one thing straight it ain’t about you what you do for me
I’m gonna love you and I love you loving me
Hey, honey, I’m coming home
Don’t know why I’ve been gone so long
Said, hey honey I’m coming home to you

Said, hey honey I’m coming home soon
You know what we’re gonna do
It doesn’t get easier the further I run
It gets harder to carry the weight of what I’ve done
I am speaking from experience
I don’t wanna run run run no more
Seems to me a man can do a lot of thinking
When he’s staring down the barrel of a gun
And the devil’s had his sights set on me
Since the day I took sides with the Son
Now every morning I go to war with the ghosts I met the night before
Just trying to find the grace in my mistakes
There’s monsters beating down my door, they’re hungry for a soul that’s worn
From all of the running that I’ve done
I don’t wanna run run run no more
I don’t wanna run run run no more
I don’t wanna run run run no more
I don’t wanna run run run no more

Packed our bags and we headed west
Thought that it might be the best thing for us
But I was thinking about me
All the things that we’d leave behind
Family and a peace of mind
But I got you
I am gonna love you ’til the stars go out
A shelter up above you ’til they all fall down
We ain't got a lot but we got love
We ain't got a lot but we got love
Floating like feathers in heavy like rain
The two of us together can weather any change
That comes our way
Nothing here really feels like home
Home is who you’re with when you don’t feel alone anymore
I am gonna love you ’til the stars go out
A shelter up above you ’til they all fall down
We ain't got a lot but we got love
We ain't got a lot but we got love
Ooooo-ooooo-oooo
Ooooo-ooooo-oooo

James Bell was a company man
Five years old and he’d go and stand
by the tracks and watch the trains go past
He’d get chills when he saw them like that
He had a girl but he had to let her go
He couldn’t give her what she needed most
He fell in love with that steel
No woman’s touch could ever make him feel that
Twenty years, nose to the grindstone
Twenty more, and they broke his heart and his bones
When they let old James Bell go
Dark house with the curtains drawn
And his old friends try to call
They say pick up the phone, put down the bottle
Twenty years, nose to the grindstone
Twenty more, and they broke his heart and his bones
When they let old James Bell go
When they let old James Bell go
Twenty years with his nose to the grindstone
Twenty more and they broke his heart and his bones
Twenty years, nose to the grindstone
Twenty more and they broke his heart and his bones
When they let old James Bell go

Rivers winding round words in my head
Shivering pines say that summer is dead
Chest feels hollow and my hands are numb
Do my best to swallow all the things I’ve done
When you break your back but you still don’t have bread
But you won’t go back on the things that you said
You bled your heart out and it took every drop
You’ve come too far now to ever stop
Wash me in the water and I’ll never go back
Even when I’m walking through Deadman Pass
You can’t trust a man because he’ll just let you down
Crooked and twisted we grow from the ground
From dust, we came and dust we shall return
From dust, we came and dust we shall return
Wash me in the water and I’ll never go back
Even when I’m walking through Deadman Pass
Wash me in the water and I’ll never go back
Even when I’m walking through Deadman Pass

Twenty some years, ain’t got much to show
I spend most of my matches with my back against the ropes
There’s a crowd looking on what do you wanna see
Been throwing fights my whole life for the right fee
I need to win one to get me back on my feet
A strong footing to give my punches some heat
Instead of all this shadowboxing
Nothing comes easy and if does it comes cheap
Like a bottom shelf bourbon or the lies that I tell through my teeth
There’s a fire in my eyes and I wanna watch it burn
Kill the man that I was and send the ashes to the urn
I need to win one to get me back on my feet
A strong footing to give my punches some heat
Instead of all this shadowboxing
You might have broken bones but you’ve got soul
I need to win one to get me back on my feet
A strong footing to give my punches some heat
I need to win one to get me back on my feet

I’ve been there before
When you feel the ache of a heartbreak
And you don't think you’ll ever climb out
Call all your friends and they all say the same thing
You’re better off without
But they won’t see the silver lining
When you’re under cover’s hiding
Hey now little mama
Don’t you think you outta
Love again, once again
You’re knocked down but you gotta
Stand up if you wanna
Love again, once again
Warm weather’s coming and lovers will lose their wanting
We’re all searching for something in every little belonging
Don’t you let your mind grow weary
Nothing worth it should be easy
Hey now little mama
Don’t you think you outta
Love again, once again
You’re knocked down but you gotta
Stand up if you wanna
Love again, once again
When you feel the ache of a heartbreak
And you don't think you’ll ever climb out
Call all your friends and they all say the same thing

Don’t you think you outta
Love again, once again
You’re knocked down but you gotta
Stand up if you wanna
Love again, once again
I can’t sleep again tonight
Maybe it’s the dark or it’s the light
I’ve been angry with God
For not giving me what I want
All my fears are haunting me
Mind is wired while you're sound asleep
I can’t feel them so pour another one
Let’s keep this heavy until we see the sun
I’m always on and I don’t know how to shut off
I hold my pride just like a gun
Aimed at everyone I love
Don’t know who I can trust
I’m not who I think you thought I was
All my fears are haunting me
Mind is wired while you're sound asleep
I can’t feel them so pour another one
Let’s keep this heavy until we see the sun
I’m always on and I don’t know how to shut off
All my fears are haunting me

Built this thing from the ground up out of nothing
No flight plan, no manual to be found
You and I
We’re driving in the dark without headlights
Trying to find our way
Hard tellin’ where we’ll be in the coming days
But I’ll be there with you
Hard tellin’ where we’ll be in the coming days
But I’ll be there with you
I’ll be here with you
Built a wall around my heart to stop the bleeding
Mortar made of all the words that I should’ve said to you
We’re walking through the fire and smoke clouds
Tryin’ to find our way
Hard tellin’ where we’ll be in the coming days
But I’ll be there with you
Hard tellin’ where we’ll be in the coming days
But I’ll be there with you
I’ll be here with you
No flight plan, no manual to be found

I’ll be here with you
What makes the world stop turning
Is yet the touch of your skin
I couldn’t be further from you
But you’re still right here
I caught a plane to Portland
For a few days of work
My heart stays heavy on you
And you’re on my shirt
All the in between
Keeps us on our feet
Through the day to day and dreams
We’ll find our ordinary
The hope we carry some days
Feels like a burden
But this blood inside our veins was
Paid for with purpose
There’s a ghost in these bones and it’s willing my soul
I feel it like a fire
To let my love pour over you darling
Is my one desire
All the in between
Keeps us on our feet
Through the day to day and the dreams
We’ll find our ordinary
All the in between
Keeps us on our feet
Through the chaos and the dreams
We’ll find our ordinary

Heart is made of blood and stone
Beats against this cage of bone and I wonder
Will it ever free my soul?
Cause I’ve been serving twenty-some years
In the same old body with the same old fears
Following me around like a shadow
I can feel it
Something good is coming down the line
I can see it
Come tomorrow it’s all gonna be alright
I’ve been dying
To be alive
City lights burn like fires
Off into the darkest nights and I wonder
If my name will fade away
Cause I’ve been chasing down this dream
Since I was only seventeen
But what is fame if you forget your reasons?
I can feel it
Something good is coming down the line
I can see it
Come tomorrow it’s all gonna be alright
I’ve been dying
To be alive
I can feel it
Something good is coming down the line
I can see it
Come tomorrow it’s all gonna be alright

Man on a ledge
This whole world’s pushed you to the edge
Nobody knows
All the pain you shoulder on your own
Here’s hoping you haven’t made up your mind
I know this world can be so unkind
There’s another way down, turn around
Come with me inside, listen to the sound of my voice
It’s alright, it’s okay you’re gonna live to fight another day
That ain’t water down there
A man can’t fly on his own, through thin air
It’s cold concrete, beneath your feet
There’s another way down, turn around
Come with me inside, listen to the sound of my voice
It’s alright, it’s okay you’re gonna live to fight another day
That ain’t water

Son of a man who worked his fingers to the bone
Just trying to make something out of nothing, you know
Never wanted silver, gold or the finer things
Just a wife, kids, a home and the American dream
Whoa-oh-ohhhh I ain’t gonna step in line
Whoa-oh-ohhhh baby this is our time
To rewrite
Our American Dream
I wanna see the world from the edge of my seat
Through a big windshield or plane, not a tv screen
Don’t you need the road to tell you who you really are
Find out whether or not a man could ever change his stars
Whoa-oh-ohhhh I ain’t gonna step in line
Whoa-oh-ohhhh baby this is our time
To rewrite
Our American Dream
Whoaaaa-oh-oh-ohhhh Whoaaa-oh-oh-ohhhh-oh
Whoaaaa-oh-oh-ohhhh I ain’t gonna step in line

Whoaaaa-oh-oh-ohhhh Whoaaa-oh-oh-ohhhh-oh
Whoaaaa-oh-oh-ohhhh I ain’t gonna step in line
So you’re leaving you got your mind made up
Please don’t waste all my time
All my friends said that you were bad news
And I was hoping they weren’t right
I don’t wanna sound too desperate
Maybe it’s because of the wine
You know where to find me
If you ever find yourself across the state line
The brightest mornings, and darkest evenings
You are always on my mind
These haunted hallways that I’m left walking
Would you have stayed if I asked twice
I don’t wanna sound too desperate
Maybe it’s because of the wine
You know where to find me
If you ever find yourself across the state line
I don’t wanna sound too desperate
And maybe it’s because of the wine
Well you know that it’s never a question if you change your mind
You know where to find me if you ever find yourself
If you ever find yourself you know where to find me across the state line
Please don’t waste all my time
All my friends said that you were bad news
And I was hoping they weren’t right
I don’t wanna sound too desperate
Maybe it’s because of the wine
You know where to find me
If you ever find yourself across the state line
The brightest mornings, and darkest evenings
You are always on my mind
These haunted hallways that I’m left walking
Would you have stayed if I asked twice
I don’t wanna sound too desperate
Maybe it’s because of the wine
You know where to find me
If you ever find yourself across the state line
I don’t wanna sound too desperate
And maybe it’s because of the wine
Well you know that it’s never a question if you change your mind
You know where to find me if you ever find yourself
If you ever find yourself you know where to find me across the state line
Young man not much younger than I
Don't you know that you've got your whole life
To be worried about the things that are bringing you down
Will you fall in love, will you get the girl
You've been dreaming of ways that you'll save the world
From past mistakes of the human race
You've got time
But everybody says it passes you by
Don’t go thinking that’s how it has to be
You'll ask why
And you’ll learn by breaking your bones
It'll all be answered at the coming of the sun
For now be young
Monsters and beggars will beat at your door
And it’s hard to tell who you’re not anymore
Don’t go trading a number for your last name
You've got time
But everybody says it passes you by
Don’t go thinking that’s how it has to be
You'll ask why
And you’ll learn by breaking your bones
It'll all be answered at the coming of the sun
For now be young
Don't you know that you've got your whole life
To be worried about the things that are bringing you down
Will you fall in love, will you get the girl
You've been dreaming of ways that you'll save the world
From past mistakes of the human race
You've got time
But everybody says it passes you by
Don’t go thinking that’s how it has to be
You'll ask why
And you’ll learn by breaking your bones
It'll all be answered at the coming of the sun

Don’t go trading a number for your last name
You've got time

Don’t go thinking that’s how it has to be
You'll ask why
And you’ll learn by breaking your bones
It'll all be answered at the coming of the sun
For now be young
Tell me everything you’re thinking
Don’t hold anything back
It’s been so long since we had it out
Tell me what’s really healthy about that
We play house like we’re school kids
Never dealt with all the pain
I don’t wanna give God my anger
And I don’t really feel like explaining
Do you know me, really know me
Or am I a stranger in your house
I want you to love me
Without a doubt
Won’t you tell me what he looks like
The image of a man
Is he everything you thought I’d be
Before you took my hand
Is he polished, is he clean
Is he strong as he is kind
I’m so damn rough around the edges
And weathered from traveling through time
Do you know me, really know me
Or am I a stranger in your house
I want you to love me
Without a doubt
Do you know me, really know me
Or am I a stranger in your house
I want you to love me
Without a doubt
Don’t hold anything back
It’s been so long since we had it out
Tell me what’s really healthy about that
We play house like we’re school kids
Never dealt with all the pain
I don’t wanna give God my anger
And I don’t really feel like explaining
Do you know me, really know me
Or am I a stranger in your house
I want you to love me
Without a doubt
Won’t you tell me what he looks like
The image of a man

And weathered from traveling through time
Do you know me, really know me
Or am I a stranger in your house
I want you to love me
Without a doubt
Do you know me, really know me
Or am I a stranger in your house
I want you to love me
Without a doubt
