Jules Massenet (1842-1912) was a French composer and teacher from the Romantic period. He's known for his repertoire of over 30 operas, two of which are still staged today, 'Manon' (1884) and 'Werther' (1892). His other works include a mix of ballets, piano pieces, songs, incidental music and orchestral pieces.
