Benjamin Adair Murphy’s songs cover many styles, but they always come back to the blues.

His last album 'Let’s Make a King' was recorded by Latin-Grammy winning musician Juan Victor Bellisario, and featured Peter Hess (The Hold Steady, TV on the Radio, David Byrne,) and other top-notch musicians. 'Let's Make a King' was called “one of the most compelling albums of 2020” by the Folk Connection, and named one of the best albums of 2020 by multiple publications.  The Talk Tonight Blog in the UK has described Benjamin as "...possibly one of the best underground voices I’ve heard it a very long time.”

Benjamin's music has appeared in the film Beckman (2020) - IMDb starring William Baldwin and Burt Young, and Revelation Road 2: The Sea of Glass and Fire (2013) - IMDb starring Eric Roberts and Ray Wise. 

His early love for Mississippi John Hurt, Lead Belly, and Blind Willie Johnson influenced Benjamin to create stripped-down, unpolished, acoustic country blues songs. His admiration for Leonard Cohen, Ira Gershwin, Bertolt Brecht, Hank Williams, Tom Waits, and Bob Dylan taught him the power of storytelling through songs.  

Benjamin fronted the NYC band the Blue Eighty Eights, and has recorded solo albums in Brooklyn, Rome, and Mexico City. He has written lyrics for Nanuchka, Roiki, Electro Morocco, the Monophonic Shooting Spree, and other artists.
